Hydroxypropyl distarch phosphate is a modified resistant starch. It is prepared by treating starch with propylene oxide and phosphoric acid or phosphorus oxychloride. It is stable against heat, acids, alkalis, and starch degrading enzymes, and is used as a thickener, stabilizer, and emulsifier in foods that are freeze-thawed and where better color and shine are required.

It is used as food additive (E1442) in EU and generally recognized as safe food substance in US.
